Overpopulation of the World

The world population is the total number of living humans on the planet Earth. As of today,
it is estimated by the United States Census Bureau to be 6.97 billion. According to a separate
estimate by the United Nations, it is approximately seven billion. The world population has
experienced continuous growth since the end of the Great Famine and Bubonic Plague in 1350,
when it stood at around 370 million.

The graph showed estimated and projected populations of the world and its continents (except Antarctica) from 1950 to 2100.
The shaded regions correspond to range of projections by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

The scientific consensus is that the current population expansion and accompanying increase
in usage of resources is linked to threats to the eco-system. The InterAcademy Panel Statement
on Population Growth, which was ratified by 58 members national academies in 1994, called
the growth in human numbers "unprecedented," and stated that many environmental problems,
such as rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, global warming, and pollution, were
aggravated by the population expansion.

Human population control

A population control is the practice of artificially altering the rate of growth of a human population.
Historically, human population control has been implemented by limiting the population's birth rate,
by contraception or by government mandate, and has been undertaken as a response to factors,
including high or increasing levels of poverty, environmental concerns, religious reasons, and
overpopulation. The use of abortion in some strategies has made population control a controversial
issue, with organizations such as the Roman Catholic Church explicitly opposing the artificial
limitation of the population.

中国では引き続き「一人っ子」政策を維持している。 One-child-per-couple policy in China
Population of the productive age is now declining in China.

Professor in Renmin University ( People's Unversity ) of China told that, if the government abandoned
the one-child-per-couple policy,
it might increase the productive-age population. However,
it also would lead to a serious adverse effect on the natural resources and environment in China and the World.

In 1960, Brasilia became the capital of Brazil. The proposed population at that time was 500,000 habitants. However, the population in 2011
was over 2,60,000, beyond five times than the expected level, followed by a traffic jam and created many social problems in the suburb of
the city of Brasilia. Picture source: TBS TV, broadcast March 18, 2012.

The population in Japan is 1 25.3 million in October 2010. It declined 0.3% during the 5-year period.
The Government and a mass media emphasize this fact is the serious phenomenon of population trend
in Japan, proposing the urgent measures to cope with the society with declining a birth rate. In contrast,
people without a Japanese nationality increased 0.2% during the same period. This means the level of
population in Japan is quite stable without a significant change. However, the senior citizen over
the age of 65 consists of 23% of total, suggesting an advanced aging society.

It is hard to understand that almost all people think that, if we do not handle to stop the decrease
of birth rate, Japan will fall-off soon. It is expressing reported the world population already exceeded
seven billion. Nevertheless, China, with the world largest population, will turn to reduce its population,
because of the one-child-per-couple policy. India, on the other hand, in the future, there would be
a serious lack of water and foods, which lead to a destruction of woods and natural environment,
advanced global warming and severe damages to the earth.

In a country with a high proportion of elderly people to productive age group, like in Japan, the reduction
of a tax revenue cause much difficulty to operate the pension scheme, and force a young generation
to pay a huge amount of a national debt. However, if you look at a little more in the long run, the ratio
of the working-age and retirement-age would be considerably changed, with the increase in population
of man in the prime of life.

Japan has been well controlled the population stable during the past five years. We can be proud of
that to the world. We did not, at least, change for the worse earth environment. I cannot understand
why we must change our policy about population? If you abandoned this stability in the birth and death
of Japanese residents, and if you try to increase the number of inhabitants in this country, it is nothing
but confusion. All people, including a politician, have to re-think about the policy toward population

Financial assistance and improvement of an educational facility are no doubt important for the next
generation. However, a cash payment of the child-care allowance is worthless and not effective. A
similar policy existed during the second World War. A military cabinet in 1941, recommended to increase
a birth rate, campaigning, 'Give a birth and increase Japanese serviceperson' This wrong policy led to
a population explosion in the after-war period.
