Fjallsarlon is a glacier lake at the south end of the Icelandic glacier Vatnajokull. It locates not far from
Skaftafell National Park, established in June 2008, and the glacial lake of Jokulsarlon. Above, there is
looming the famous volcano Oreaefajokull. Most of these areas within the National Park area is the
property of the state.

ヨーロッパ最大の氷河・ヴァトナヨークトル氷河 (Vatnajokull) は、Skeidararjokull から始まり、Skafttaffells-
jokufull、Breidamerkurjokull、Skalafellsjokull、Flaajokull へと、ホプン( Hofn ) の先まで続いている。その
大きさだけでなく、世界で最も美しい氷河の一つに数えられる。アイスランド本島の南岸を走る１号線ルートの
沿道沿いでこれらの氷河の雄大さと大自然のすばらしさを堪能できる。ヨークルサゥルロゥン ( Jukulsarlon )
氷河湖はヴァトナヨークトル氷河 の一部で、1960年に氷河が後退したあとに出来た（地球温暖化の影響と思える）。
大きな氷河の断片が青い水に浮かぶ姿が有名である。観光用に水陸両用のボートが定期的に運行している。時たま
耳にする鳥の声以外には何も聞こえなかった他の氷河とはまた違った、人々のざわめきがここにある。
大きな氷塊は少しずつ北大西洋の海岸へ運ばれて消滅している。
