San Francisco Earthquake of 1989

The Loma Prieta earthquake was a major earthquake that struck the San FranciscoBayArea
in October 1989. The quake lasted for 10-15 seconds. It was measured 6.9magnitude scale.
The quake killed 63 people throughout northern California, injured 3,757, and left some 3,000
to 12,000 people homeless.

The bridge consists of 10 lanes, that is 5 westbound on the upper level and 5 eastbound on the lower level.

(L) A damage to the Marina District following the Loma Prieta earthquake: In the 1989 earthquake, the water-saturated unconsolidated mud
and sand suffered liquefaction, and the earthquake's vertical shock waves rippled over the ground more severely.

San Francisco Earthquake of 1906

The San Francisco earthquake of 1906 was a major earthquake that struck San Francisco and
the sea coast of Northern California at 5:12 a.m. on April 18, 1906. The most widely accepted estimate
for the magnitude of the earthquake is a moment magnitude of 7.9. However, other values have
been proposed, from 7.7 to as high as 8.25.

1906年4月18日午前5時12分、サンフランシスコ地震がサンフランシスコ市内及びカリフォルニア北部を襲った。
建物は倒壊し、破裂したガス管が引火して火災が発生し、数日間にわたって街中を焼き尽くした。
街の4分の3以上が灰燼に帰し、ダウンタウンの中心部はほとんど消失した。
