In Australia, all states and territories retain exemptions from smoking
bans for private rooms in sleeping
accommodation, including hotels and motels. In NSW Australia, in the year
of 2005, a smoking room or
area in hotels,nightclubs and clubs must not exceed 50% of the total space,
according to the smokefree
environment act of 2000. However, after 2006, the percentage of smoking
room or area in hotels has been
changed not to be exceed 25% of the total space. Several international
hotel chains have announced that
they will no longer allow smoking even in private rooms and have elected
to be entirely smokefree.
