Brisbane's Airtrain in Australia

Air train is the private-owned commuter railway line that extends 13.0 km northeast from Brisbane to the
Brisbane Airport at both its separate International and Domestic terminals. The line is carried on an elevated
prestressed concrete viaduct of 8500 m length, between the Domestic Airport Terminal and Eagle Junction
railway station.

ブリスベン空港・郊外電車

「Get the Train . Make the Plane」とのキャッチフレーズで航空客を鉄道に呼び込もうと、いま、鉄道会社が懸命の
呼びかけを行っている。日中のブリスベン市内は渋滞がひどいので、航空機利用客にオンタイムに到着できるという
鉄道の利点を強調している。実際、列車の運行は正確で, ほぼ時刻表通り運行されている。

そもそもブリスベン空港には鉄道の便はなかった。ブリスベンの国内空港および国際空港整備に合わせ、市の中心部に
乗り入れていた郊外路線をブリスベン国内空港まで延長し、2001年に完成した。約30分に１本運行し、航空便の発着の
多い時間帯には15分間隔で乗客を運ぶ。市の中心部まで25分（＄12）、ゴールドコースト近郊のネラング（Nerang）
まで100分"（＄23.30）かかる。しかし、サーファーズパラダイス（Surfers Paradise）までは、さらに駅から20分、
バスかタクシーに乗り継がねばならない。乗車券は20ドル以上の場合はクレジットカードで買える。

オーストラリアでは軌道の異なる鉄道路線が敷かれている。初期に敷設された鉄道網は、各植民地別に建設された路線で
あったため、オーストラリア全体の利益をほとんど考慮していなかった。それに伴って発生した最も顕著な問題は、
各路線の建設時に行われた、軌間の決定であった。現在、3っ以上の異なる規格の線路を列車は走行している。

広軌: 1600 mm、路線延長4017 km、主にビクトリア州を走る鉄道で、南オーストラリア州にも現存する。
標準軌: 1435 mm、路線延長17,678 km、主にニューサウスウェールズ州の鉄道網
狭軌: 1067 mm、路線延長15,160 km、主にクイーンズランド州の鉄道路線で、南オーストラリア州の一部、
