Taiwan Railways The Taiwan Railway Administration (abbreviated TRA) is an agency of Republic of China Ministry of Transportation and Communications responsible for managing, maintaining, and running passenger and freight service on 1097 kms of conventional railroad lines in Taiwan. As Taiwan is heavily urbanized with a high population density, railways have always played an important part in domestic transportation. Most of the main lines are fully electrified and service is generally efficient and reliable. Taipei Main Station railway platforms are located on the B2 level. 台北地下駅から近距離電車、中長距離列車が発着する 台湾鐵路（台鐵） 台湾鐵路管理局（略称：台鐵）は、 台湾国有鐵道のうちの1つで、日本の国土交通省に相当する中華民国 交通部の運営するもの。 台湾西部を中心に日本統治時代に建設された路線が多く、軌間（ゲージ）は日本の JR在来線と同じ1067mmの狭軌である。新たに建設された台湾高速鐵道（高鐵）の経営は台湾鐵路（台鐵） とは別個で競合している部分もある。台北駅の高鐵と台鐵の改札口は地下１階に並んである。ホーム（月台） は地下２階に設けられている。列車が近づくとMRT（地下鉄）と同じように赤い警告ランプが黄色の警告 ライン上に点滅する。 A new express train of the east coast line of Taiwan Railways. 台湾鉄路（台鉄）の新型特急 「自強号」は台鐵で運行する長距離列車で日本の特急に相当する。列車の運賃は列車ごとにそれぞれの運賃体系 があり、列車を特定しないと料金計算ができない。各駅停車の「区間車」は同じ区間でも「自強号」より遙かに安い。 「自強号」などの長距離列車はすべて全席指定席で立っている人はいない。人気列車は発売と共に売り切れる。 筆者は上記ポスターの列車で台湾の東海岸沿いを南下したかったが、残念ながら満席となっていた。台湾を南北に 走行する台鐵縦貫線は二本あり、そのうち、山脈の西を走る鐵路を「山線」、東の海側を走る鐵路を「海線」という。 　 (L) A ticket purchase slip of Taipei station.
